I really wanted this product to work! I saw the commercials and immediately did some research on the effectiveness of charcoal in facial cleansing and ran out to buy it. Went to 4 different stores that were all sold out (prob because of the commercials) and FINALLY found it. My skin is very oily, but not too acne prone, so I didn’t need to use the exfoliating version with salicylic acid…I just needed the mattifying properties that this product promises to have. I used it in the shower and I even rinsed with cold water to close my pores after treatment. About 20 minutes later, my face was oilier than it’s ever been!!! Not only was my face SUPER OILY, but the oil was THICK and disgusting!!! I WILL NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT AGAIN, NOR WILL I RECOMMEND IT FOR OILY SKIN!!! Also, it DOES NOT mattify at all!!! I’m guessing the 5 star reviews were made by people that work for Garnier, or people who were paid to write the reviews in order to get people to buy it. This product is by far the WORST product I’ve ever tried for oily skin…PLEASE BEWARE!!! Also, charcoal does have natural properties which enable it to help dry out oil, but this product doesn’t ACTUALLY contain charcoal…it’s only “INFUSED” with it, and has an overwhelming scent of menthol! Please don’t waste your time and money on this product!!!

The scent is very strong. Not at all appealing and is not good for acne prone skin.
As for oil control that was a joke my skin was even more greasy and it broke out even more.

I normally use a different product to control my oily skin and reduce shine. The cleanser I normally use was sold out so I decided to give this a try. I’m not sure what this product is supposed to achieve or do but it definitely doesn’t control shine nor does it seem to remove excess oil. My skin is more oily than ever and I’ve had some break outs since using it. I definitely do not recommend this product.

The product does not leave your face feeling clean. It does NOTHING for minimizing oil or shine, it is watery and just plain terrible. I would give it a zero out of 5 stars if I it would let me. Don’t waste your money or your time.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE OVER-THE-COUNTER CLEANSER FOR OILY SKIN. I’m in my 40s and I have somewhat oily skin, mostly in the summer and this cleanser leaves my face feeling squeaky clean and without residue and without drying my skin. It has a nice lather and its just awesome. However, the best cleanser for oily skin, and its my absolute favorite of all time – MD Formulations Glycare Cleanser with 15% Glycolic, but its about $30, and worth every dime. Can’t get it here though. Other than that, as far as OTC, The Shine Control Garnier cleanser is a very good cleanser.
